Endorsements

ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT, July 16, 2026

Mat-Su Republican Women's Club Est. 1947 is proud to announce that we are endorsing the gubernatorial ticket of Senator Shelley Hughes and General (Ret.) Blake Gettys.

This is our first, and only gubernatorial endorsement to date, although there may be additional endorsements as we vet and discuss other candidates. Our stated position has been that we are “watching and learning," and that we give candidates equal time to address the audience at our monthly meetings. We will continue this policy going forward.

As the Division of Elections deadline for dropping out of the Primary Election came and went, and we did not see any of the candidates remove themselves, we have become ever more concerned by the likely multi-candidate vote-splitting of the historically small number of Primary Election voters who decide which candidates move forward to the General, which is unfortunately, a Ranked Choice Voting scenario, which works against us.

As Republicans, and as a club, our stated Mission is: "…..to promote loyalty to the Republican Party, and to work for the election of Republican candidates." We believe that splitting the vote between so many candidates will hurt our choices in the General Election, and will defeat our mission of "election of Republican candidates." Endorsements and backing by individuals also encourages support from likeminded individuals, allowing candidates to receive additional donations--which is critical to getting their message out. It is for these reasons, that we have decided to extend our pre-Primary endorsement.

Some of our considerations in the vetting and discussion process were: the choice of a running mate, voting record (if in office), stated policy positions and plans, campaign organization, viability of the combined ticket in the General Election (including a look at any negatives which may be used by the opposition), public records, who their supporters are, past history with our club, and our own personal interactions with the candidates.

Senator Shelley Hughes has been a long-time member of MSRWC and has regularly attended our meetings to provide updates and answer questions. We have observed her communication style, wherein she goes directly to the people to have conversations, via a livestream, many coffee chats, informative and educational videos and other social media posts. This track record has continued as a candidate, and we believe it will continue if elected to serve as our next governor; a governor and It. governor who serve the people.
